Welcome to my site. Thanks for stopping by.
This is a work in progress, so I'll be updating it occasionally throughout the year.
I finished my undergraduate studies in 2007 and received an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence from the
University of Toronto.
Now I'm wrapping up a Master's degree in Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence -
Computational Linguistics), also at the University of Toronto. My supervisor is
Graeme Hirst.
My research revolves around the topic of political opinion mining - for example, extracting the ideology of a speaker from debate speeches. Ideally, we would be able to automatically determine whether a person is a Liberal or a Conservative, based on what they say. This work is a combination of
sentiment analysis and
text categorization.
I was born in Russia, grew up in Latvia, but I've been in Toronto for the past 13 years. So I have 2 native languages (English and Russian) and I've also studied French, Spanish, and German.
I'm a certified Tennis Instructor and I give lessons in the summer. You can check out my tennis resume
here.
Also, I'll be teaching APS 101 (Computer Programming for Engineers) at the University of Toronto in the Winter of 2009. You can visit the course website
here.
Otherwise, feel free to look around the site to find out more.
